Clinical Expertise

Dr. Carissa Gustafson has worked in a multitude of settings including an intimate partner and sexual violence center, a substance abuse center, and the Department of Mental Health as part of a crisis assessment team. She has experience at community counseling centers, an adolescent psychiatric hospital, and the VA.

In these settings, she has cultivated a well-rounded and sophisticated skill set with a multiculturally diverse and clinically complex population with a range of presenting problems from adjustment disorders, depression and anxiety to trauma-related and substance use disorders.

Dr. Gustafson gravitates to third-wave cognitive-behavioral therapies (CBT) such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), both of which emphasize an acceptance and mindfulness-based approach.  She is available to work with adults of all ages.

Registered Psychological Assistant PSB94024082 (CA).  Dr. Gustafson provides services under the supervision of Dr. Chang.  She expects to obtain full licensure by mid-summer of 2018.
